Each morning 1000 tickets are released for that day with timed entry to the Alhambra palace and fortress complex itself. We didn’t think to book tickets in advance, on our trip to Andalusia, so we rose early on Sunday morning to queue for tickets to visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed Alhambra palace and Alameda gardens.
It was pretty chilly queuing for tickets and I could see why the Sultan chose Granada as the site for the summer palace because it provides welcome relief from the summer heat.
We had a lovely time wandering around the gardens. The roses were in full bloom along with many cottage garden flowers.
It was nice watching the sun rise over the city of Granada.
There was a large tour group behind us so we ensured that we kept ahead of them to allow us time to enjoy the gardens without dozens of people milling around us.
It was a great idea to see the summer palace of Alameda before Alhambra palace and fortress because the plaster work at Alameda is less well restored than Alhambra.
Stay tuned for the next post for Alhambra palace and fortress!
